Date Masamune ruled in the late 16th and early 17th centuries and became known as the “One-Eyed Dragon” after losing sight in one eye as a child. The statue represented here is a well-known landmark in Sendai, honoring his role as the city’s founder and one of Japan’s most memorable warlords.
