The real Kaminarimon is one of Tokyo’s most recognizable landmarks, known for its giant red paper lantern marked with the characters for “thunder gate.” First built centuries ago and rebuilt several times after fires, it serves as the dramatic entrance to Nakamise-dori and the temple grounds beyond.
